I applied because I care about supporting the people who dedicate their careers to public service. Working in the Civil Service, I’ve seen the brilliant work my colleagues do as well as the challenges they face, which makes the Charity’s work feel especially meaningful. I’m excited by the opportunity to help it reach more people and make a lasting difference.
Hannah Riley and Oak Watson appointed Early Career Trustees

We’re delighted to appoint Hannah Riley and Oak Watson as our new Early Career Trustees. For 140 years, we have been here for colleagues through life’s toughest moments, from mental health and money worries to caring responsibilities, disability, grief and relationship challenges.
As we look ahead to the next chapter, we’ve created this programme to champion early career Civil Service professionals who will play a key role in shaping the future of the Charity, bringing their fresh perspectives and strategic thinking to our board.
Meet our new early career trustees
Hannah Riley
Hannah Riley is an Assistant Bill Manager in the Major Sporting Events team at the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. She joined the Civil Service in 2024 as an Assistant Parliamentary Clerk, prior to which she worked in procurement for the NHS.
Hannah is a History and Politics graduate from the University of Warwick. She is passionate about public service and supporting communities, with previous volunteering experience as a Citizens Advice Adviser and with PHAB, a charity that supports disabled and non-disabled young people to build inclusive friendships.
Why I applied
Oak Watson
Oak Watson is an Economic Advisor at the Home Office, applying economic analysis to support evidence‑based decision making. He joined the Civil Service in 2021 and have since developed a strong interest in using economics and analytical methods to improve outcomes and design effective policy.
Outside of work, he enjoys spending time outdoors. He is a keen runner and cyclist, and enjoys camping trips with friends whenever he can.
Why I applied
I was particularly drawn to the Charity for Civil Servants because of its focus on supporting wellbeing and mental health. The charity’s mission and objectives really resonate with me, especially its commitment to helping colleagues navigate challenging periods and build resilience.
I am really looking forward to getting started with the Charity.
