A day to remember: 140 years celebrating Your Charity For Life

On 21 October, we marked a special milestone in the Charity’s story: our 140th Anniversary.

It was a chance to come together, share memories and recognise the many people who have helped Charity for Civil Servants make a difference over the years.

While anniversaries invite us to look back, this celebration was also about the people making a difference today, and the connections that will help us continue supporting civil servants and their families in the future.

A celebration to remember

From the people who champion our work to those providing support behind the scenes, our Charity’s story has always been shaped by the commitment and generosity of others. Our anniversary was an opportunity to recognise these contributions and celebrate the relationships that make our work possible.

The night included a congratulatory letter from our royal patron, HM King Charles III, who sent his “warmest good wishes to all those present for a memorable event.”

Jo Shanmugalingam, our Chair of Trustees and Permanent Secretary for the Department for Transport voiced her praise for the Charity for Civil Servants team, and the Civil Service Choir performed a rendition of ‘Stand By Me/Lean On Me’ to capture the essence of the charity. These moments gave us an opportunity to appreciate the people behind the milestone, as well as the difference their continued support makes.

A heartfelt thank you

Every colleague, volunteer, supporter and partner has a part to play in helping our Charity reach people when they need us. Our anniversary offered a moment to recognise those contributions and express our appreciation to everyone who has been part of our journey.

Whether through raising awareness, sharing their time or helping someone find support, these contributions have a lasting impact.

The evening was also a moment to thank some of the relationships that have made key events possible. Baringa, Accenture and Boundless have made work like our Mega Miles Challenge and Mental Health Wellbeing Conference possible, whilst the likes of Pearn Kandola, Charis and Newton have all stepped up to support our vital work.

Here’s to what comes next

Our anniversary is something to celebrate, but the most important part of our story is still being written.

Speaking at the event, our CEO, Jonathan Freeman MBE DL said “In the coming years, we will continue to champion civil servants and recognise the people behind the job titles, and crucially, their humanity. We must be there for them. Because unlike any other charity. We understand them. We get them. And we are uniquely placed to do so.”

As people’s lives and circumstances change, so will the ways we support them. Our commitment is to keep listening, learning and making sure civil servants and their families can turn to us throughout life’s different stages.

That’s what being Your Charity for Life means.

To everyone who joined us to celebrate and to everyone who continues to champion our work, thank you.

140 years of support and so much more to come.
