Equality and diversity

We’re committed to building a diverse and supportive workforce. Here’s what we do.

Bring your whole self to work! We have a cross-departmental Equity, Diversity and Inclusion group who work together to ensure that the diversity of our staff and our Civil Service community is reflected in everything that we do. And we have Inclusion Champions who help to bring that goal to life.

In February 2023 our data showed:

  • The average age of our workforce is 46. We currently range from 22 to 67.
  • 65% of our line managers are women.
  • Gender split: 32% of our staff identify as male and 68% as female.
  • Ethnicity split: 15% of our staff are from ethnically diverse backgrounds.
  • Sexuality split: 11% of our staff have told us they’re part of the LGBTQIA+ community.

The Charity for Civil Servants is committed to building and supporting a workforce where everyone feels safe and encouraged to bring as much of themselves to work as they want. We know that some people prefer to be private, but if you want to tell us all about yourselves, then we want to know!

We have a Dignity at Work policy, which we use to ensure that all our current and future staff are treated fairly, with respect and without bias.

When it comes to applying to work with us, we want to hear from you no matter your background.

Workplace adjustments

Not all disabilities are obvious. If you have a disability, caring responsibilities or a health condition, speak to your manager about workplace adjustments.

We are also committed to supporting working families. We offer flexible hours and parental leave.
