Winter Wellbeing
The winter months can be tough. But what if we look at this season in a different way? It’s a time for nature to reset itself and in that, you can find some magic. Cosy woollen jumpers, hot winter drinks, crisp, frosty air and above all, we have a golden opportunity to be kind to each other.
At the Charity for Civil Servants we want to remind you that you belong to a community who cares about you and if you’re struggling to cope this winter, reach out to us for help today.
Here are a few top tips for looking after your wellbeing this winter.
Stay connected with family, friends and colleagues
A simple message can let someone know you’re thinking about them. Even better, why not meet up and check in with how you’re both doing? Connection is key.
Try not to isolate yourself. If you know someone who might be lonely over Christmas, why not spend some time with them? This could improve someone else’s wellbeing, as well as your own. Staying connected can help keep our relationships strong but if you’re having difficulties in your relationships, take a look at our Relationships webinar from Relate and how you can access relationship counselling.
Be active
We know exercise provides so many benefits not only to our physical health but to our mental health too. It can be easy to shut ourselves away in the winter. Exercise can help ward off the winter blues and boost your energy levels. Why not combine exercise with fundraising for your charity? Helping yourself and others in need at the same time – a win win!
Give
Helping other people in your community can have a hugely positive impact on your own wellbeing. It will also give you the opportunity to try new things, develop new skills and meet new people.
Take notice of the world around you
Take some time to appreciate the world around you and be aware of your own thoughts and feelings. Check out our mindfulness resources to see how we can help you live in the present and find joy in each day – you deserve it!
Keep learning
There’s always something new to learn. The cold winter months can be a great time to take up a new hobby or skill, so why not sign up for a class, learn to play an instrument or challenge yourself to do something new? Or maybe join one of our introductory talks to learn more about a charity made just for you?
We’re better together this winter: pass it on.
