Olivia's story

Olivia donated to us throughout her Civil Service career but never thought she would need help herself. When her husband had a stroke, she got in touch.
Olivia's Story

MAKING CHANGES AT HOME

When Olivia’s husband, Peter, had a major stroke, time stood still. As the shock settled, the couple did their best to adapt to their new lives. Due to paralysis down the right-hand side of his body, Peter could no longer use the stairs.

Unable to afford the house adaptations they needed, they were now faced with the prospect of being forced out of their family home – the home where they had raised their two kids and most importantly, the home where Peter felt safe and comfortable.

That’s when Olivia reached out to us for help.

SUPPORT FOR THE FAMILY

We listened and we looked at the whole picture. Restoring independence in the family home was our priority and we found that we could pay towards the installation of a wet room and downstairs bedroom – enabling and empowering the whole family as they started the journey of rehabilitation together.

I started donating to this Charity when I joined the Civil Service over 30 years ago, but I never thought over the years that I would ever need help myself…

… After something as lifechanging as this, you just want some normality back for your family…and from the moment I contacted the Charity for Civil Servants, I felt like they understood that – I was amazed by their generosity and felt supported every step of the way…

This is a fantastic charity, and I can’t thank you enough.
