Introducing our 2026 team
I’m based in Liverpool and only joined the Civil Service in January 2025 – but I quickly felt part of something bigger.
When the opportunity came up to support my fellow civil servants by running the London Marathon and raising money for #TEAMCFCS, I knew I had to apply. It’s a challenge I couldn’t turn down.
I started working for the Civil Service in 2024 after being a teacher for 25 years. I’ve rediscovered my confidence, built relationships with my amazingly supportive colleagues and feel valued by my employer.
My husband started his working life as a civil servant for the Ministry of Defence, only leaving to follow his passion as a software engineer in the games industry.
My association with the Civil Service extends to several members of my family including both my grandparents. My grandfather spent his whole career, after fighting in WWII, working for the Ministry for Labour.
Because of this, the Charity for Civil Servant’s mission resonates strongly with me. The knowledge that there’s a safety net for civil servants, an organisation that I or my relatives could turn to for help and advice is both comforting and empowering. That’s why I’m delighted to have this opportunity to give back by raising awareness and funds for a charity that is committed to helping civil servants.
We might run at very different paces, but my husband is an amazing support, and we run together (at my speed) at least once a week. My son is also involved, devising runs through his own knowledge of training for Ironman Wales.
Running the London Marathon for #TeamCFCS not only fulfils a personal dream but is also a chance to show others that it is possible to overcome life’s challenges, especially when you have a support network and in doing so, I get to serve the wider Civil Service community.
I’ve been a civil servant since 2005 and had the privilege to work with lots of wonderful and talented civil servants across DWP, Ministry of Justice, HMPPS, Cabinet Office and DSIT. I’ve been through the Civil Service Fast Stream program and have an extensive network of civil servant colleagues nationally across the whole of government. I chose HR as a career because I’m passionate about people, and making working lives as good as they can be in the Civil Service.
I’d heard about the benevolent fund in my early Civil Service days but didn’t learn the extent of the charity’s work until 2019 when a lady came out to speak to us about how the charity supported her when she went through a difficult time.
