Stephanie's Story

When Stephanie experienced a pulmonary embolism leaving her unable to work, she reached out to the Charity for Civil Servants for help.
Stephanie's story

Dealing with a cancer diagnosis

Stephanie has faced some tough times in her life. Escaping an abusive relationship and raising her daughter as a single mum was followed by a diagnosis of uterine cancer. Luckily it was caught early and following a hysterectomy, Stephanie made a full recovery.

Financial and wellbeing support

Stephanie was looking forward to a brighter future, but some years later, she suffered a pulmonary embolism, meaning she was unable to work. It’s at this point of financial struggle that she reached out to the Charity for Civil Servants for help.

A member of our help team listened, understood and tailored our range of services to support Stephanie’s individual needs. This meant we provided a listening ear, signposted her to wellbeing services and provided financial support to get her through that particularly difficult period in her life.

Being able to speak to someone on the phone like that… it made me feel like I was talking to a friend, and she helped me see things differently. I felt safe to talk about anything and she helped me build up my confidence… like I finally had a glimmer of hope.

I felt like the rug had been pulled from under my feet and the help from the Charity came at a time when I really needed it. The financial and emotional support meant that I could keep going.

Don’t underestimate the impact your donations make. No matter how small, every single donation means something and makes a difference.
