Matt’s Silverstone Racetrack 10K Challenge

We have a fabulous fundraiser, Matt, who is taking on a 10k challenge on the 23 November around the iconic Silverstone Racetrack.

Sandra from the Charity’s fundraising team spoke to Matt about his run.

The Silverstone Racetrack is an amazing venue. Why are you taking part in the 10K Run around this iconic Racetrack?

My partner and I are massive F1 fans, attending Silverstone July 2025 for our first time and we absolutely love it, and jumped at the chance to be able to run around the track that such great drivers have driven round!

What motivated you to start running?

I wouldn’t say I enjoy running overly, however I have incorporated running in my circuits that I have completed at work alongside peers. I also think it helps as I cannot keep still at work!

How is your fitness and training going? Do you have any good running tips?

My fitness plan is steady, incorporating a gradual increase in distance each week, and overload throughout the session plans. For my mum, it has changed her training completely and she has fallen in love with the challenge and motivation. This has also helped her lose a lot of weight competing with her PT son! Lauren is not a massive gym go’er, however she jumped at the chance to go round the track!

My big tip that I obey is mobility and stretch is HUGE part of the process. I feel amazing once I have completed my pre and post stretching and feel that I recover quicker! Don’t skip these!

Why have you chosen to support the Charity for Civil Servants?

My partner and I have worked in the prison service for 6 and a half years, and have noticed a MASSIVE DRAIN on us and the staff that have been and gone in the service. I feel it is important to try and raise as much as we can for those who need support from yourselves.

We are already pencilling in a plan for a skydive for the Charity next year!

Fitzy And Matt
Fitzy and Matt

Matt and Lauren who work at HMP Wayland, as well as Matt’s mum Debs will be channelling all their efforts and energy into running the 10k Silverstone race in memory of their close friend Matthew Fitzpatrick ‘Fitzy’ who sadly passed away in October in a tragic accident. Fitzy will be sadly missed by all his colleagues and his loving family.

If you’re able, show your support for Matt by donating to his fundraising page in dedication to Fitzy.
